Abstract:Obituaries, or obituary reports, serve as the primary means of disseminating information about the death. While obituaries may seem to merely “announce” and “present” death, they also play a crucial role in constructing our understanding of both life and death. In doing so, they contribute to shaping our broader perspectives on life, death and the human experience. Whether in China or the West, in traditional or modern contexts, we are all participants in culture deeply influenced by the media’s portrayal of life and death. Therefore, it is essential to explore the relationship between Life and Death Studies and the media, emphasizing the significance of studying the portrayal of media in life and death studies.
